Teacher Shot Dead Inside AMU Campus, Brazen Night Attack Sparks Shock and Security Concerns
A teacher at Aligarh Muslim University was shot dead by bike-borne assailants inside the campus late Wednesday night. Rao Danish was attacked near the library canteen, critically injured by two gunshots to the head, and later died during treatment, triggering panic and security concerns at AMU.
The victim, identified as Rao Danish, was a teacher at the ABK Union High School, which is affiliated with AMU. According to police officials, the attack took place at around 9 pm near the library canteen, an area that falls under the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station. At the time of the incident, Danish was sitting with a group of friends within the campus premises.
Police said the attackers arrived on a scooter and opened fire without warning. Danish was shot twice in the head, causing critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors attempted to save him. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
University authorities confirmed the incident soon after it occurred. AMU Proctor Professor Mohd. Wasim Ali stated that the administration was informed promptly and coordinated with medical and police officials following the shooting. After Danish’s death was confirmed, senior university officials, including AMU Vice Chancellor Naima Khatoon, reached the medical college. She assured that strict action would be taken and that the university would cooperate fully with the investigation.
The daylight-like audacity of the attack inside one of India’s most prominent university campuses has sent shockwaves through the institution. Students and staff expressed fear and disbelief over the killing, which occurred in a frequented area of the campus during evening hours.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the assailants. CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined, and multiple teams have been formed to track down those responsible. Authorities have not yet disclosed any possible motive behind the attack.
The murder of a teacher within the AMU campus has once again brought the issue of safety in educational institutions into sharp focus. As the investigation continues, the incident stands as a grim reminder of the vulnerability of public spaces and the urgent need for robust security measures to protect those who live and work within them.
