Opposition Slams Haryana Government Over Assembly Conduct, Accuses It of Evading Public Concerns

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has accused the BJP-led state government of avoiding public-interest issues during the recent Assembly session, alleging that opposition questions and proposals were ignored, weakening democratic debate and legislative accountability.

Chandigarh, Haryana — The conduct of the Haryana government during the recent Assembly session has sparked sharp criticism from the opposition, with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deliberately sidestepping issues of public importance. Hooda alleged that the government’s approach throughout the session reflected a clear unwillingness to engage with democratic scrutiny or address citizens’ concerns.

Speaking on the floor and later to the media, Hooda claimed that the Assembly session was marked by a dismissive attitude toward the opposition. According to him, questions raised by opposition members, formal proposals, and matters directly affecting the public were consistently ignored or brushed aside by the government. He argued that such conduct undermines the very purpose of legislative debate and weakens the role of elected representatives.

The former chief minister further stated that the government’s reluctance to respond meaningfully to opposition queries deprived the House of substantive discussion. He maintained that the Assembly is meant to function as a platform for accountability and dialogue, but the manner in which proceedings were handled reflected a departure from established democratic norms.

Hooda warned that the alleged avoidance of public-interest issues has broader implications for governance in the state. He said that when a government fails to engage with criticism or answer legitimate questions, it erodes public trust in democratic institutions and restricts transparent decision-making.

The remarks come amid ongoing political tension in Haryana, with the opposition seeking to highlight what it describes as governance failures and a lack of responsiveness from the ruling dispensation. The government has not issued an immediate response to Hooda’s allegations.
