Militants Strike Police Guard Post in Pakistan’s Karak, Killing Five Officers

Five Pakistani police officers were killed in a militant attack on a police guard post in Karak district while protecting a gas production facility. The assault triggered a high-security alert, with forces launching search operations as authorities investigate the motive and identify those responsible.

A deadly militant assault on a police guard post in Pakistan’s northwestern Karak district has left five police officers dead, underscoring persistent security challenges in the region. The attack targeted personnel assigned to protect a gas production facility, officials said, triggering an immediate security lockdown and a sweeping search operation.

According to local authorities, the assault took place at the Gurguri police station area, where the officers were deployed on security duty for a private gas company operating nearby. Armed attackers opened fire on the police contingent, killing all five officers at the scene. The assailants managed to flee following the attack, prompting concerns over militant mobility in the district.

In the aftermath of the incident, security forces sealed off the surrounding area and placed Karak district on high alert. Additional police and paramilitary units were deployed as part of an intensive search and clearance operation aimed at tracking down those responsible. Checkpoints were reinforced, and patrols increased to prevent further attacks.

Officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and identify the perpetrators. Law enforcement agencies are examining potential links to militant groups known to operate in the broader Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, which has witnessed sporadic attacks on security forces and energy infrastructure in recent years.
