Four Killed in Devastating Late-Night Crash on Rishikesh–Haridwar Highway

Four people were killed in a horrific late-night road accident on the Rishikesh–Haridwar highway after an XUV500 crashed into a stationary truck near Mansa Devi crossing. Police say overspeeding and a sudden animal crossing may have triggered the fatal collision.

=A late-night road accident on the busy Rishikesh–Haridwar route claimed four lives after a speeding SUV rammed into a stationary truck near the Mansa Devi railway crossing, underscoring ongoing concerns over highway safety in Uttarakhand.

The crash occurred during the night hours when an XUV500 reportedly lost control and slammed into a truck parked along the roadside. The impact was catastrophic. The force of the collision tore through the vehicle, ripping off its roof and leaving the car completely mangled. All four occupants of the SUV died on the spot, according to officials at the scene.

Police said two of the deceased have been identified as residents of Rishikesh, while the identities of the remaining two victims are yet to be established. Initial findings suggest the SUV was travelling at high speed when a sudden obstruction — believed to be an animal crossing the road — caused the driver to swerve, leading directly to the fatal collision with the parked truck.

Local police reached the site shortly after the incident and began formal investigation procedures. The damaged vehicles were removed to restore traffic flow on the highway, which remained disrupted for several hours. Authorities have confirmed that a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the precise sequence of events and to assess whether any safety violations were involved, including the circumstances under which the truck was left stationary on the roadside.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the risks posed by high-speed travel, roadside parking of heavy vehicles, and unexpected obstacles on major highways, particularly during night hours. As investigations continue, the incident stands as a stark reminder of the need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures to prevent further loss of life on one of the region’s most frequently used routes.
