Modi Highlights Decade of Development in Assam, Predicts BJP Hat-Trick at Gogamukh Rally
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Gogamukh, highlighted a decade of BJP-led development in Assam and expressed confidence in securing a third term. He outlined key welfare promises, targeted Congress leadership, and emphasized women-centric schemes ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections.
Addressing a public rally in Gogamukh, Modi credited former chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma for ushering in what he termed a “new era” in the state. He asserted that the ongoing political momentum reflects the transformative governance delivered over the past decade.
“These elections are about building a developed Assam for a developed India. A hat-trick for the BJP-NDA government is certain,” the Prime Minister stated, positioning the upcoming polls as a decisive moment for both the state and the nation.
In an indirect attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Modi said the upcoming election would mark a “century of defeats” for what he described as the Congress’ “self-proclaimed prince,” intensifying the political rhetoric ahead of voting.
The Prime Minister pointed to the large turnout at the rally as evidence of widespread public support. “This ocean of people is proof that we will win the election for the third time,” he said, reinforcing the BJP’s confidence in retaining power.
Highlighting key promises in the BJP’s manifesto, Modi announced that over 15 lakh additional families would be provided pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He further stated that poor families would receive free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level, outlining a broad welfare agenda.
Emphasising women-centric initiatives, the Prime Minister said the Lakhpati Didi scheme aims to benefit 40 lakh women in Assam. “Around 3 lakh women have already become ‘Lakhpati Baideo’,” he noted, adding that the Orunodoi scheme would be expanded further to strengthen financial support for women.
Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4. The electoral contest is primarily between the ruling BJP-led NDA and the Congress, with the BJP contesting in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People’s Front. The NDA is aiming for a third straight term, while the Congress is seeking to return to power in the northeastern state.
The rally at Gogamukh signals a high-stakes political battle, with both alliances positioning their agendas and leadership narratives ahead of a decisive electoral verdict that will shape Assam’s governance trajectory.
