Auction Plans Stalled as Traders Protest at Farrukhabad Market Yard

Traders at a mandi committee in Farrukhabad staged a protest against the auction of shops and proposed eviction of commission agents, forcing officials to halt proceedings. Protesters cited poor sanitation and lack of water supply, escalating tensions between traders and market authorities.

Tensions flared at a regulated market yard in Farrukhabad on Wednesday after traders openly opposed an official auction process, forcing authorities to halt proceedings midway. The dispute unfolded at the mandi committee premises under the Kotwali Kayamganj area, where officials had arrived to conduct the auction of shops and initiate the removal of commission agents.

According to officials present at the site, Deputy Director of the Mandi Committee Sanjay Singh reached the market yard to oversee the scheduled auction. However, traders gathered in large numbers and strongly objected to the process, arguing that the auction and the proposed eviction of arhatias were being carried out without addressing long-standing infrastructural issues within the mandi.

The protesting traders raised concerns over basic civic amenities, alleging that sanitation facilities inside the market were in poor condition and that water supply had remained disrupted for an extended period. They maintained that proceeding with auctions while ignoring these deficiencies was unjustified and would further strain their day-to-day operations.

As the protest intensified, officials were compelled to suspend the auction to prevent the situation from escalating. No use of force was reported, but the confrontation highlighted growing dissatisfaction among traders toward the mandi administration.

The incident has underscored a widening rift between market authorities and the trading community, with unresolved infrastructure grievances now intersecting with administrative actions. Unless dialogue leads to a resolution, officials fear that continued friction could disrupt routine market activities and delay regulatory measures aimed at reorganizing the mandi’s operations.
