David Neres Double Seals Supercoppa Italiana Triumph for Napoli in Jeddah
Napoli lifted the Supercoppa Italiana for the third time as David Neres scored twice to secure a 2–0 final win over Bologna in Jeddah. The Brazilian winger starred as Napoli added to their trophy haul under Antonio Conte and returned focus to the Serie A title race.
The Brazilian winger was the decisive figure in a tightly contested final against last season’s Coppa Italia winners. Neres broke the deadlock shortly before half-time with a moment of individual brilliance, curling a precise long-range effort beyond the reach of the Bologna defence and goalkeeper. The goal shifted the momentum firmly in Napoli’s favour and rewarded their measured control of the opening half.
Bologna attempted to respond after the interval, but Napoli’s pressing proved relentless. Neres struck again in the second half after capitalising on a costly error at the back, intercepting a weak pass from goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia as Bologna tried to play out from defence. The winger made no mistake with the finish, doubling Napoli’s lead and effectively settling the contest.
The final capped an outstanding Supercoppa campaign for Neres, who finished the tournament with three goals, having also scored in Napoli’s 2–0 semi-final victory over AC Milan last week. His contributions proved pivotal as Napoli navigated the expanded four-team format of the competition, which since 2023 has included the Serie A and Coppa Italia runners-up alongside the champions.
Napoli head coach Antonio Conte praised his squad’s determination after the match, telling Sport Mediaset that the players fully deserved the trophy. He highlighted their desire to deliver silverware for the supporters and noted that the triumph would make for a special Christmas celebration, with another piece of silverware added to the club’s cabinet.
The Supercoppa Italiana is contracted to be staged in Saudi Arabia until 2029, and the Jeddah final once again showcased Italian football on an international stage. For Napoli, the victory comes as they continue to chase domestic success, sitting just two points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan. They return to league action on Sunday with an away fixture against Cremonese, while Bologna will look to regroup when they host Sassuolo at home.
Beyond the immediate celebrations, Napoli’s Supercoppa success reinforces their status as a dominant force in Italian football and provides fresh momentum as the season intensifies, both at home and on the global stage.
