Details of the assistance package were later shared at a joint press conference with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath. Officials confirmed that the $450 million support would be directed toward addressing immediate damage and facilitating reconstruction in areas affected by Cyclone Ditwah, which caused widespread destruction to infrastructure and livelihoods.
Indian officials emphasized that the assistance reflects India’s commitment to standing by Sri Lanka during times of crisis, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters that strain national resources and recovery mechanisms.
