Punjab Pushes Global Investment Agenda in Strategic Talks with British Deputy High Commissioner

Punjab government officials met British Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smerillio and multinational company representatives in Chandigarh to discuss investment opportunities in the state. The delegation was also invited to attend the 6th Progressive Punjab Investors Summit, reinforcing Punjab’s global investment outreach.

Chandigarh witnessed a renewed push for international investment on Thursday as senior officials of the Punjab government held detailed discussions with British Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smerillio and representatives of several multinational companies. The high-level meeting took place at Udyog Bhawan, underscoring the state’s intent to strengthen global partnerships and position Punjab as a competitive destination for foreign investment.

During the interaction, Punjab government officials outlined the state’s evolving industrial ecosystem, policy framework, and sector-specific opportunities aimed at attracting overseas investors. The discussions focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration and identifying avenues where British and other multinational firms could expand or establish operations in Punjab. Officials emphasised the state’s strategic location, improving infrastructure, and investor-friendly initiatives as key strengths.

As part of the engagement, the visiting delegation was formally invited to participate in the sixth edition of the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit. The invitation highlighted the summit’s role as a flagship platform for showcasing investment opportunities, facilitating government-to-business dialogue, and enabling direct engagement between policymakers and global industry leaders.

The meeting reflected Punjab’s broader efforts to actively engage with international diplomatic missions and global corporations to accelerate economic growth and industrial development. By fostering such interactions, the state aims to translate diplomatic and business outreach into concrete investments that can generate employment, boost exports, and enhance Punjab’s standing on the global investment map.
