Thakur Accuses Congress of Spreading Misinformation on Expanded Rural Jobs Scheme

Union Minister Anurag Thakur accuses the Congress of spreading fear and misinformation over the “Ji-Ram-Ji” scheme in Himachal Pradesh, saying the Modi government’s decision to raise rural employment guarantees from 100 to 125 days with higher wages is aimed at inclusive development and legal job security for the poor.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday accused the Congress of deliberately creating fear and confusion around the government’s newly expanded rural employment initiative, saying the opposition is unable to accept measures aimed at strengthening economic security for the poor. Speaking in Himachal Pradesh, Thakur said the controversy stems from the Modi government’s decision to go beyond the existing framework of guaranteed rural work.

According to Thakur, the Centre has enhanced the employment guarantee from 100 days to 125 days while also increasing the remuneration paid to beneficiaries. He alleged that instead of welcoming the move, the Congress has resorted to misleading narratives about the “Ji-Ram-Ji” scheme, attempting to undermine public confidence in a programme designed to support vulnerable households.

The Union minister emphasised that the scheme is firmly rooted in law and provides assured employment to rural families, helping them secure stable incomes and improve their standard of living. He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to placing the rights and welfare of economically weaker sections at the centre of its development agenda.

Thakur maintained that the expanded guarantee would have a meaningful impact on rural livelihoods by offering additional days of paid work and higher wages, particularly benefiting marginalised communities. He expressed confidence that the programme would contribute to inclusive growth by addressing employment needs at the grassroots level.

The remarks come amid ongoing political sparring between the ruling party and the opposition over welfare policies and their implementation. As the debate continues, the government insists that the enhanced employment guarantee represents a significant step toward strengthening social security in rural India and ensuring that growth reaches those most in need.
