Video Exposes Alleged Environmental Crimes Along Dehradun’s Bindal River, Raising Alarms Over Official Oversight

A video from Dehradun has exposed alleged illegal construction and forced alteration of the Bindal River’s natural flow. Environmental experts warn of flood risks as questions grow over administrative oversight and the silence of regulatory authorities, including the National Green Tribunal.

A newly surfaced video from Dehradun has brought renewed attention to what environmental advocates describe as serious and sustained violations along the Bindal River, triggering concerns over illegal construction, ecological damage, and regulatory failure in Uttarakhand’s capital.

The footage, which has begun circulating locally, appears to show extensive interference with the river’s natural course. According to sources familiar with the area, the original flow and mouth of the Bindal River have allegedly been forcibly altered, an act considered illegal under environmental and river conservation norms. The video also indicates the presence of permanent concrete structures within the river zone, alongside widespread land filling and construction activity carried out in apparent violation of established regulations.

Observers say the scale and organization of the work suggest a planned operation rather than isolated encroachment. Allegations point to the involvement of land and mining interests working in tandem, fundamentally reshaping sections of the riverbed and its surrounding area over a prolonged period.

The revelations have prompted sharp questions about administrative vigilance and the effectiveness of state-level monitoring mechanisms. Particular attention has been drawn to the absence of visible action by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the statutory body tasked with safeguarding environmental compliance, which has so far not publicly responded to the matter.

Environmental experts warn that tampering with a river’s natural flow can have long-term and potentially severe consequences. In Dehradun, a city already grappling with rapid urban expansion and mounting ecological stress, such interference could heighten the risk of flooding and cause extensive damage to lives, property, and fragile ecosystems.
