Delay on Crucial Uttar Pradesh Rail Link Triggers Demand for High-Level Probe

The Unchahar–Amethi rail line, spanning 66.17 kilometres, is designed to link the districts of Raebareli and Amethi while also improving access to Pratapgarh. According to Tiwari, essential preliminary processes—including surveys, land demarcation and land acquisition—were completed several years ago, removing major procedural hurdles that typically slow such projects.

However, construction activity on the ground has progressed at an unacceptably slow pace, prompting questions about administrative efficiency and oversight. Tiwari has urged the central government to initiate a comprehensive, high-level inquiry to identify the causes behind the delay and fix accountability among the concerned authorities.

He stressed that timely completion of the rail line is critical for the region’s development, as it would enhance mobility, support local economies and improve access to essential services for residents across multiple districts. With public funds already invested and groundwork long finished, he argued that prolonged inaction undermines both public trust and developmental priorities.

The demand for an investigation brings renewed attention to the project’s stalled status, placing pressure on the government to accelerate construction and ensure the long-awaited rail service becomes operational without further delay.
