Two Suspected Cattle Thieves Shot and Arrested After Armed Clash with Police in Meerut

A police operation in Meerut’s Kithaur area escalated into an armed encounter after suspected cattle thieves opened fire while trying to escape. Two suspects were shot in the leg, arrested, and found with stolen cattle, an illegal firearm, and a vehicle. Police continue searching for the remaining absconding offenders.

In Meerut’s Kithaur police station limits, an attempted recovery operation led to a violent confrontation late this week, ending with two suspected cattle thieves being shot in the leg and taken into custody. The incident unfolded when officers moved in to recover a country-made pistol allegedly used in previous criminal activity.

According to officials, a police team had been tracking four accused who had been on the run in earlier cattle-theft cases. As officers approached the suspects to seize the weapon believed to have been used in the crime, the men reportedly opened fire in an effort to flee. Police returned fire in controlled retaliation, injuring two of the suspects and bringing them under immediate control.

Authorities confirmed that both injured individuals were provided medical attention and later formally arrested. During the follow-up search, officers recovered two stolen cattle, an unauthorised country-made firearm, and a vehicle said to have been used by the group. The remaining suspects, previously noted as absconding, are still being traced.

Police officials stated that the operation highlighted the ongoing challenge of tackling organised cattle theft in rural zones surrounding Meerut. The successful apprehension, they added, underscores the department’s commitment to curbing armed criminal activity and ensuring public safety in the region.
