India Resolves to Defeat Terror on First Anniversary of Pahalgam Attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers mark the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, honoring 26 victims killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba on April 22, 2025. The nation reaffirms its zero-tolerance policy and reflects on the retaliatory Operation Sindoor against terror infrastructure, asserting that India's resolve against cross-border terrorism remains firm and unwavering.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in asserting that India will never bow to any form of terror as the country marked the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack. Commemorating the innocent lives lost to the heinous designs of terrorists exactly one year ago, the Prime Minister declared that such cowardly acts will never succeed. The 2025 massacre, orchestrated by the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent people, primarily tourists from across India who were visiting the Jammu and Kashmir region. In a post on X, PM Modi expressed that his thoughts remain with the bereaved families coping with the loss, emphasizing that as a nation, India stands united in grief and resolve to ensure these victims are never forgotten.

The tragedy served as a catalyst for a significant shift in national security policy, leading to a retaliatory military offensive named Operation Sindoor. During this mission, Indian armed forces successfully destroyed military and terror infrastructure within Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Reflecting on this legacy of strength, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the pain of losing our people remains in the heart of every Indian. He reaffirmed India's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and those who harbour it, describing terrorism as the greatest enemy of humanity.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscored the government’s firm and decisive response to cross-border threats, noting that while India has endured decades of terror, the response today is unwavering. He paid heartfelt tributes to those killed on April 22, 2025, stating that the wounds inflicted on the nation will never be forgotten. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated this steadfast resolve, calling for the counteraction of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Furthermore, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan characterized the anniversary as a painful reminder of the human cost of terrorism and a turning point in national resolve, while Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar concluded that the people of India will never forget the cowardly murder of their loved ones in Pahalgam.
