Right-Wing Activists Storm Indore College, Disrupting Valentine’s Day Celebrations

Following reports of vandalism and property damage, local police intervened to secure the campus and evacuate students. A celebratory atmosphere at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Indore turned into a scene of chaos on Friday after members of a right-wing organization forcibly entered the campus to protest a Valentine’s Day event. The intrusion, marked by reported vandalism and the destruction of event decor, prompted an immediate security response and has sparked a wider conversation regarding campus safety and the policing of cultural celebrations in the city.

The incident unfolded while students were participating in a pre-planned Valentine’s Day program on the college grounds. According to eyewitness accounts and local authorities, a group of activists affiliated with the Bajrang Dal breached the venue, voicing loud opposition to the festivities before beginning to dismantle the event setup. The sudden escalation left students and faculty scrambled for safety as the activists targeted the specific areas designated for the celebration.

Law enforcement officials were dispatched to the scene shortly after the disruption began to restore order. DCP Zone 1, Krishna Lalchandani, confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the police's primary objective was the immediate protection of the student body. "A program was underway on the campus when members of a Hindu organization entered the venue and engaged in vandalism," Lalchandani noted. He further clarified that once the situation was stabilized, the administration ensured that students were safely handed over to their parents to avoid any further risk of physical harm or intimidation.

The college administration is currently in the process of assessing the damage and has formally engaged with the police to seek legal recourse. While no arrests were immediately reported, the DCP emphasized that further action will be dictated by the formal complaint lodged by the institute’s management. In the wake of the disturbance, the campus remained under watch to prevent any secondary flare-ups, and the scheduled events were effectively terminated.

This disruption highlights the recurring friction between conservative groups and modern cultural observances on Indian campuses. Beyond the immediate property damage, the incident has raised significant concerns among educators and parents regarding the vulnerability of private educational spaces to external ideological interference. As the Indore police continue their investigation into the breach, the local academic community is now calling for more robust security protocols to ensure that student life and campus activities can proceed without the threat of targeted aggression.
