Mainpuri Traffic Cops Launch Major New Year Crackdown; 256 Vehicles Penalized in Safety Blitz
Mainpuri traffic police launched a major enforcement drive on New Year's Day 2026, penalizing 256 vehicles for various violations at Bhanwat intersection. Authorities collected ₹2.80 lakh in fines for offenses including triple riding, helmet violations, and illegal window tints as part of a broader road safety initiative in Uttar Pradesh.
The operation, which began early on Thursday, targeted a wide array of violations ranging from safety gear negligence to illegal vehicle modifications. By the end of the day, traffic police had issued citations to 256 vehicles, accumulating a total fine amount of ₹2.80 lakh. Among the most frequent offenders were motorcyclists riding with three passengers and individuals operating vehicles without helmets. Furthermore, the police specifically targeted cars equipped with prohibited dark window films, which have long been a focal point for security and visibility concerns in the region.
Traffic officials emphasized that the timing of the drive was intentional, aiming to maintain discipline during a period often marked by reckless driving and celebratory congestion. By maintaining a heavy presence at high-traffic junctions like Bhanwat, the department intended to send a clear message that holiday festivities do not grant immunity from the law.
The local administration has indicated that this is not a one-off initiative. Following the successful execution of the New Year’s Day drive, police spokespeople confirmed that such enforcement cycles will remain a consistent feature of Mainpuri’s urban management strategy. Moving forward, the department plans to intensify monitoring to foster a culture of road safety and significantly reduce the frequency of preventable accidents on district roads.
