Dense Fog Triggers Massive Multi-Vehicle Pile-Up on Uttar Pradesh Highways

Dense fog blanketed Uttar Pradesh on its first winter morning, triggering severe road accidents across the state. In Bulandshahr, a massive multi-vehicle pile-up on the Ghaziabad–Aligarh highway left several people injured, disrupting traffic as authorities launched rescue and relief operations.

The first spell of winter fog in Uttar Pradesh brought traffic to a standstill and turned deadly on Thursday, as severely reduced visibility led to a series of major road accidents across the state. One of the most serious incidents unfolded in Bulandshahr district along the Ghaziabad–Aligarh highway, where dense fog caused a large-scale chain collision involving hundreds of vehicles.

According to local authorities, the sudden onset of thick fog early in the day drastically impaired visibility on several highways, leaving drivers with little time to react. In Bulandshahr, vehicles moving at close intervals collided one after another, resulting in a massive pile-up that stretched across long sections of the highway. Cars, trucks, and other commercial vehicles were among those involved in the crash.

Multiple people sustained injuries in the incident, though officials have not yet confirmed the exact number. Emergency services and local administration teams were rushed to the site to manage the situation, clear the damaged vehicles, and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Traffic movement on the affected stretch remained disrupted for several hours as rescue and clearance operations continued.

Police officials said that poor visibility due to fog was the primary cause of the accident, and motorists were urged to exercise extreme caution while driving during early morning hours. Similar fog-related disruptions were reported from other parts of the state, highlighting the widespread impact of the season’s first major weather shift.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks posed by winter fog on northern India’s highways, particularly during peak travel hours. Authorities have emphasized the need for heightened alertness, reduced speeds, and strict adherence to safety guidelines to prevent further accidents as foggy conditions are expected to persist in the coming days.
