Minister’s Son Faces POCSO Charges in Telangana, Remains Absconding
Bandi Bhageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, faces POCSO and BNS charges in Telangana over alleged sexual harassment of a minor since June 2025, including an alleged assault at a Moinabad farmhouse. A Special Investigation Team formed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is probing the case as Bhageerath remains absconding.
The FIR was filed on May 8, 2026, in Hyderabad following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother. According to the allegations, the harassment continued for several months before culminating in the alleged assault at the farmhouse in Moinabad.
As the case intensified, Bandi Bhageerath filed a counter-claim alleging extortion by the family of the minor. The competing claims have further escalated tensions surrounding the investigation, drawing sharp political reactions across Telangana.
In response to the controversy, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter. The development triggered political clashes, with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi accusing a Congress-BJP nexus, while the Bharatiya Janata Party described the issue as a family matter.
Police officials confirmed that Bandi Bhageerath’s phone has remained switched off since May 11. As of May 12, no arrest had been made, and he continued to remain absconding while the Special Investigation Team pursued the investigation into the serious allegations under the POCSO Act and BNS provisions.
The case has rapidly evolved into one of Telangana’s most closely watched controversies, combining allegations involving a minor, high-profile political connections, and mounting pressure on investigating authorities amid an intensifying political confrontation
