Fire Erupts at ONGC Offshore Platform in Mumbai High, 10 Personnel Injured
A fire at ONGC’s offshore SHP Platform in Mumbai High left 10 personnel with minor injuries. The blaze was swiftly controlled, operations normalised, and all injured reported stable. The incident comes amid ONGC’s ongoing Daman Upside Development Project in the Arabian Sea.
In a post on X, ONGC said the incident occurred at around 5:45 pm at its SHP Platform under the Mumbai High Asset. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The company said that 10 personnel sustained minor injuries and are currently under medical care, adding that all of them are stable.
ONGC further stated that operations at the platform have been normalised following the incident. Further details are awaited, the post added.
Last month, ONGC had commenced gas monetisation from its Platform B-12-24P of the Daman Upside Development Project in the Arabian Sea. The billion project was aimed at boosting domestic energy supply, is situated in the Arabian Sea, around 180 km northwest of Mumbai and about 80 km south of Pipavav in Gujarat.
The incident underscores operational risks in offshore energy infrastructure even as the company advances key projects to strengthen domestic energy supply.
