Jodhpur Police Constable Among Three Arrested in Illegal Firearms Bust

Jodhpur Police have dismantled an illegal arms smuggling ring, arresting three suspects including a serving police constable. The operation, led by the DST and Kudi Bhagtasni police, led to the recovery of a pistol and live cartridges. Authorities are now investigating a larger criminal network and the officer’s role in facilitating illicit weapon sales in Rajasthan.

JODHPUR: In a major crackdown on the illicit arms trade, Jodhpur police have apprehended three individuals, including one of their own personnel, for the alleged smuggling and sale of illegal firearms. The operation, executed under the direct mandate of the Police Commissioner, underscores a heightened regional offensive against organized crime and the circulation of unregistered weaponry in Rajasthan’s second-largest city.

The breakthrough occurred in the Kudi Thaba area following a coordinated strike led by the DCP South West and ADCP West. A joint task force comprising the District Special Team (DST) and the Kudi Bhagtasni police intercepted the primary suspect, Aslam Khan, who was found in possession of a pistol and live ammunition. During a rigorous preliminary interrogation, Khan admitted to purchasing the weapon for ₹35,000 from an associate identified as Bom Singh. However, the investigation took a significant turn when Khan implicated Ram Prakash, a serving police constable, for his pivotal role in facilitating the transaction.

Acting swiftly on this intelligence, authorities moved to take both Singh and the constable into custody. The involvement of a law enforcement officer has shifted the trajectory of the investigation, prompting senior officials to initiate a parallel internal disciplinary inquiry alongside the criminal proceedings. Investigators are currently delving into the criminal histories of the trio to determine if this incident is part of a larger, entrenched distribution network or a localized smuggling ring.

As the interrogation continues, the focus remains on tracing the original source of the firearm and identifying the intended purpose of the purchase. This arrest serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement when internal integrity is compromised, yet it also highlights the department’s commitment to self-correction and transparency. The case has sent ripples through the local administration, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of their rank or affiliation, is above the law in the ongoing battle to secure the city against violent crime.
