GORAKHPUR: The spiritual heart of eastern Uttar Pradesh vibrated with religious fervor on Wednesday as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed the traditional ritual of offering ‘Khichdi’ to Guru Gorakhnath at the historic Gorakhnath Temple. Marking the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, the Chief Minister, who also serves as the Mahant of the Gorakshpeeth, initiated the festivities during the Punya Kaal, the designated holy period, signaling the start of one of North India’s most significant religious congregations.

The temple premises witnessed an overwhelming surge of devotees, with thousands braving the morning chill to participate in the age-old tradition. Following the Chief Minister’s ceremonial offering, the temple sanctum was formally opened to the public, allowing a sea of pilgrims—many of whom had traveled from neighboring states and Nepal—to offer their prayers and ‘Khichdi’ to the deity. The local administration and temple authorities had implemented extensive security and crowd management protocols to ensure the smooth conduct of the ritual, given the massive scale of the gathering.

Beyond his ritualistic duties, Chief Minister Adityanath extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh. In an official statement released during the event, he emphasized the cultural and spiritual significance of Makar Sankranti, wishing for the collective peace, prosperity, and well-being of the state’s citizens. The event underscores the deep-rooted socio-religious fabric of the region, where the Khichdi Mela serves not only as a spiritual pilgrimage but also as a symbol of communal harmony and heritage that continues to draw millions to Gorakhpur annually.
