Massive Rail Blocks to Paralyze Central and Western Lines; 10-Hour Mega Block Announced for Saturday Night
Central and Western Railways announce massive Saturday night mega blocks for platform extensions and flyover work. A 10-hour block between Mulund-Thane and Diva-Dombivli, alongside Palghar-Umroli girder work, will cancel locals and delay major express trains like Duronto and Avadh Express. Plan your commute as services on CSMT, Kalyan, and Dahanu routes face significant disruption.
During this intensive block period, local trains usually designated for the slow route will be diverted to the fast route. However, due to the lack of fast route platforms at Thakurli and Kopar stations, local trains will not halt at these specific locations. The final local services before the block commences on Saturday include the 10:28 PM CSMT to Khopoli train and the 11:15 PM Kasara to CSMT train. During the operation, certain local services will originate from Kurla, Thane, and Mumbra, running exclusively up to Kalyan. For long-distance travelers, Up and Down mail-express trains for CSMT and Dadar will be diverted via the fifth and sixth lines. These logistical shifts are expected to spill over into Sunday morning, causing widespread delays across the local and mail-express networks.
Simultaneously, Western Railway is set to undertake essential infrastructure work involving the erection of a girder between Palghar and Umroli stations as part of a railway flyover box project between Palghar and Boisar. This block is scheduled from 11:15 PM Saturday night to 5:10 AM Sunday morning, impacting both MEMU and long-distance trains. On Saturday, train number 19102 Surat-Virar Express will be short-terminated at Dahanu station. For April 18, specific MEMU cancellations include the Dahanu-Virar service leaving Dahanu Road at 10:45 PM, and the Virar-Dahanu Road services departing Virar at 9:05 PM and 10:50 PM. Major mail-express services including the Bandra Terminus-Barauni Avadh (19037), Borivali-Nandurbar Express (19425), Mumbai Central-Hapa Duronto (12267), and Bandra Terminus-Jamnagar (22923) are also slated for delays. These coordinated engineering efforts represent a vital phase in regional infrastructure development, though they necessitate immediate adjustments for thousands of passengers.
