Criminal Complaint Filed Against Prakash Raj Following Controversial Ramayana Satire

A criminal complaint has been filed against actor Prakash Raj by Supreme Court advocate Amita Sachdeva following his controversial retelling of the Ramayana during a Kerala event. Cited under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act, the complaint addresses Raj's satirical take on North-South cultural clashes. While no FIR is registered yet, the incident has sparked a heated debate on blasphemy versus satire.

A formal criminal complaint has been lodged against veteran actor Prakash Raj by Supreme Court advocate Amita Sachdeva following provocative remarks regarding the Ramayana. Filed on April 16 with the Delhi Police’s South District Cyber Cell, the legal action cites specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act. The complaint stems from Raj’s participation in a "Sarcasm Politics" session held in Kerala, where a video captured the actor delivering a humorous retelling of the ancient epic that has since ignited a firestorm of public debate.

During the recorded session, Prakash Raj reimagined the traditional narrative by depicting Ram as a North Indian individual consuming fruits on a farm, while characterizing Ravan as a South Indian tribal figure. This interpretation intentionally touched upon sensitive language and cultural clashes inherent in modern regional discourse. While critics have denounced the performance as blasphemous and inherently divisive, supporters of the actor maintain that the remarks serve as a necessary satire on escalating regional tensions. Despite the filing of the complaint and the escalating public scrutiny, no FIR has been registered yet by the authorities.

The incident underscores a deepening divide in the cultural landscape, highlighting the volatile intersection of religious sentiment, regional identity, and artistic expression. As the South District Cyber Cell reviews the allegations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act, the case stands as a significant flashpoint in the ongoing national conversation regarding the boundaries of political satire and the preservation of communal harmony.
