Hong Kong Tourism Board Unveils "Hong Kong Mega 8" Campaign to Cement City’s Status as Asia’s Premier Events Capital
The Hong Kong Tourism Board launches the "Hong Kong Mega 8" campaign, a premier initiative showcasing eight world-class arts, sports, and cultural events. Featuring the Asian debut of Art Basel’s "Zero 10," digital art by DeeKay at the Hong Kong Club Building, and major exhibitions at M+ and the Palace Museum, the campaign cements Hong Kong’s status as the Events Capital of Asia.
Dr. Peter Lam emphasized that the “Hong Kong Mega 8” campaign fully showcases Hong Kong’s strengths by integrating high-profile art and sports mega events with local programming. For the first time, the HKTB is partnering with Art Basel to bring digital arts directly into local neighbourhoods, supported by Hongkong Land to introduce world-class public art to the heart of Central. Dr. Lam noted that the HKTB will collaborate with trade partners across various sectors to promote diversified travel experiences, aiming to maximize economic benefits by enhancing the visitor experience, encouraging extended stays, and creating substantial business opportunities for the local travel trade and related sectors.
A cornerstone of this campaign is the Asian debut of Art Basel’s global initiative, “Zero 10,” originally from Art Basel Miami Beach, which presents digital artworks encompassing code-based creations, light, and sound. Renowned South Korean digital artist DeeKay, highly regarded by global NFT collectors, will showcase his work within the “Zero 10” sector. To extend this experience beyond the fairgrounds, the HKTB and Art Basel are launching “Digital Art @Central,” featuring DeeKay’s new digital animation, DeePle the People. This artwork depicts a vibrant Hong Kong street scene with approximately 100 individually designed characters—including dragon boat paddlers, jockeys, chefs, and performers—reflecting the city’s cultural vibrancy. From 24 to 29 March, this large-scale public art will be projected onto the façade of the Hong Kong Club Building daily from 7 pm to 11 pm.
Furthering the focus on in-depth cultural exploration, the HKTB has collaborated with Art Central to launch the digital “Hong Kong Art Month Discovery Guide,” an all-in-one travel resource covering gallery exhibitions and museum showcases across Central, Sheung Wan, Wan Chai, Tai Hang, the Southern District, Tsim Sha Tsui, and the West Kowloon Cultural District. Art Central also offers comprehensive travel packages featuring accommodation and transportation. Simultaneously, the ArtHouse Tai Hang 2026 festival is transforming 10 historic houses into a hub of art and dining, while Hongkong Land presents Art Walk in Central, featuring guided tours and an interactive installation by artist Ayako Rokkaku at LANDMARK Atrium. The season reaches its finale on 29 March with the OPEN and Art on the Move trucks on Chater Road.
The West Kowloon Cultural District contributes significantly to this period of artistic vibrancy. M+ presents Lee Bul: From 1998 to Now until 9 August 2026 and Zao Wou-Ki: Master Printmaker until 3 May 2026. The Hong Kong Palace Museum showcases Heavenly Horses: Masterpieces from the Palace Museum from 20 March 2026 to 17 March 2027, celebrating the Year of the Horse. Additionally, WestK FunFest returns from 19 March to 12 April 2026 with over 120 family-friendly experiences. Other critical events include Art Walk in Central from 21 to 24 March, Art Central 2026 at Central Harbourfront from 25 to 29 March, and Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 27 to 29 March. As a government-subvented body, the HKTB remains dedicated to its mission of maximizing the social and economic contributions of tourism, consolidating Hong Kong’s position as a unique, world-class destination.
