A ₹25,000 reward criminal was arrested after a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district. The accused opened fire during a routine check, was shot in the leg, and taken into custody. He faces nine serious criminal cases across Budaun and Amroha.

A routine police checkpoint in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district escalated into a dramatic encounter when officers arrested a wanted criminal carrying a reward of ₹25,000 on his head after an exchange of fire, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident took place in the Faizganj Behta police station area, where a police team was conducting vehicle checks as part of an ongoing crime control drive. According to police, the suspect attempted to evade arrest and opened fire on the team. In response, officers retaliated, striking the accused in the leg and overpowering him at the scene.

The injured suspect was immediately taken into custody and rushed to the Asafpur Community Health Centre (CHC), where he is currently undergoing treatment under police guard. Authorities confirmed that the accused has a substantial criminal history, with nine serious cases registered against him across Budaun and Amroha districts. These include charges related to attempted murder and multiple violations under the Arms Act.

Police officials stated that the operation was carried out under the supervision of Rural Superintendent of Police Hradesh Katheria and Circle Officer Bisauli. Senior officers noted that the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in the region.
