Miracle Escape in Surat: Man Survives Fall From 10th Floor After Getting Trapped in Window Grille
A 57-year-old man in Surat narrowly escaped death after falling from the 10th floor of a residential building when his leg got stuck in a window grille two floors below. Fire brigade teams from three stations carried out a dramatic rope rescue, saving his life.
The incident occurred around 8 am at Times Galaxy Building in the Jahangirpura area of Surat. Nitinbhai Adiya, a resident of the building, was sleeping near a window in his apartment when he reportedly lost balance while turning in his sleep and fell out of the window. He plunged downward from the 10th floor but was stopped two floors below when his leg became lodged in the metal grille of a flat on the eighth floor.
A video from the scene showed Adiya hanging upside down in a harrowing position, his leg painfully trapped inside the grille box, preventing a fatal fall. Despite the severe risk, the grille held firm, effectively saving his life.
Alarmed neighbors quickly alerted the fire brigade. Rescue teams from three fire stations—Jahangirpura, Palanpur, and Adajan—were dispatched to the site. Firefighters coordinated a careful rescue operation, using ropes and safety belts from the upper floor to secure Adiya and gradually pull him to safety.
Officials confirmed that the rescue was conducted with extreme caution to avoid further injury. Adiya was successfully brought back into the building and received immediate attention. Authorities did not report any life-threatening injuries.
The incident has left residents shaken and relieved in equal measure, serving as a stark reminder of how quickly ordinary moments can turn dangerous. It also underscored the importance of swift emergency response and safety precautions in high-rise residential buildings, where even minor lapses can have serious consequences.
