Yashasvi Jaiswal Hospitalised After SMAT 2025 Match, Diagnosed With Acute Gastroenteritis

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was hospitalised after the SMAT 2025 match between Mumbai and Rajasthan due to severe stomach cramps. Doctors later diagnosed him with acute gastroenteritis and advised rest, even as Mumbai beat Rajasthan but failed to reach the final.

India’s young batting star Yashasvi Jaiswal was rushed to hospital after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 clash between Mumbai and Rajasthan, following a sudden bout of severe stomach cramps that intensified after the match in Pune. The incident raised immediate concern within the Mumbai camp, even as the team went on to secure a hard-fought victory.

The match, played at the MCA Stadium on December 16, saw Jaiswal turn out for Mumbai in a high-scoring run chase of 217 runs. However, the left-handed opener was visibly uncomfortable and failed to impose himself as he had earlier in the tournament. He managed 15 runs from 16 balls, striking three boundaries, before being caught and bowled by Rajasthan’s Ashok Sharma. Soon after the game concluded, his condition reportedly worsened, prompting team officials to seek urgent medical attention.

Jaiswal was taken to Aditya Birla Hospital, where doctors conducted detailed examinations, including ultrasound and CT scans. According to a report by The Indian Express, the Mumbai batter was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. He was administered intravenous medication and advised to follow prescribed treatment along with complete rest. Medical experts indicated that the stomach cramps, which began during the match, intensified post-game, leading to the decision to hospitalise him for further evaluation and care.

Despite Jaiswal’s absence during the latter stages of the chase, Mumbai found stability through experienced campaigners Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan. Rahane anchored the innings with an unbeaten 72 off 41 deliveries, while Sarfaraz produced a blistering knock of 73 from just 22 balls. Their partnership guided Mumbai to a three-wicket win, keeping hopes alive until the final moments of the contest.

However, the victory was not enough to carry Mumbai into the SMAT 2025 final, ending their campaign despite a strong showing in the knockout stages. Jaiswal’s health scare, meanwhile, overshadowed the result, given his importance as one of India’s most promising batters and his recent run of form, which included a tournament century against Haryana.

As Jaiswal recovers under medical supervision, the focus now shifts to his rehabilitation and availability for upcoming domestic and international assignments. The episode serves as a reminder of the physical demands of a packed cricket calendar and the importance of player health, even amid high-stakes competition.
