Gurugram police arrested BJYM district vice president Shaurya Mishra for allegedly sharing a fake and communally sensitive social media post. Authorities said he ignored police warnings to delete the false content, leading to legal action for harming religious and social harmony.
The accused, identified as Shaurya Mishra, who serves as the district vice president of the BJP’s youth wing in the Kaushambi area, was taken into custody following an investigation into a viral post that authorities say had the potential to inflame communal tensions. Law enforcement sources stated that Mishra had earlier been contacted by the police and informed that the information circulating through his social media account was fake. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law dealing with the dissemination of false information and acts that threaten communal peace. Officials emphasized that the arrest was made to prevent further circulation of misleading content and to send a strong message against the misuse of social media platforms for spreading unverified or sensitive material.
The police reiterated that irrespective of political affiliation or position, strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for spreading fake news or content capable of disturbing public order. The incident underscores the increasing scrutiny on social media activity and the legal consequences individuals may face for ignoring official warnings, particularly in matters that impact communal harmony and public stability.
