Viral Interrogation Video Triggers Action Against Woman Police Officer at Uttar Pradesh Temple
A woman police officer in Mau, Uttar Pradesh, was removed from her post after a viral video showed a women’s Anti-Romeo Squad questioning a brother and sister at Sheetla Mata Dham temple. The district police chief ordered an inquiry and urged the public to maintain peace.
The incident took place at Sheetla Mata Dham in Mau district, where a women-led Anti-Romeo Squad stopped and questioned a young man and woman who were visiting the temple together. According to officials, the police personnel assumed the pair to be a romantic couple and subjected them to questioning on that basis. It later emerged that the two were siblings, a revelation that intensified criticism of the encounter once the video surfaced online.
As footage of the questioning spread rapidly across social media platforms, drawing sharp reactions from the public, Mau Superintendent of Police took cognizance of the matter. Following a preliminary review, the woman Station House Officer (SHO) involved in the incident was removed from her post and attached to the police office with immediate effect.
Police authorities have since initiated a formal inquiry to examine the circumstances surrounding the questioning and to assess whether established protocols were violated. Officials emphasized that the action taken against the SHO was part of standard administrative procedure pending the outcome of the investigation.
In the wake of the controversy, the police administration appealed to the public to maintain calm and refrain from spreading misinformation, assuring that the matter is being handled with seriousness and transparency.
The episode has once again brought attention to the delicate balance between proactive policing and personal dignity in public spaces, underscoring the importance of sensitivity, discretion, and accountability in law enforcement actions.
