Lok Sabha Clears Manipur GST (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025
The Lok Sabha has passed the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, updating provisions of the state’s 2017 GST Act. The legislation aims to modernise tax administration, improve compliance, and bring Manipur’s GST framework in line with evolving national standards for greater efficiency and clarity.
The Bill introduces amendments intended to make the state’s GST mechanism more efficient, transparent, and responsive to present-day economic demands. Officials noted that the revisions will help strengthen compliance procedures, reduce ambiguities in existing clauses, and enhance the ease of doing business in Manipur. By modernising parts of the 2017 Act, the government aims to improve tax administration and reinforce coordination between central and state GST frameworks.
With the passage of the Bill, the government is expected to initiate corresponding administrative updates to ensure smooth implementation of the revised tax provisions. Lawmakers have described the measure as a necessary step toward maintaining uniformity within India’s broader GST architecture while enabling states to fine-tune systems to their specific administrative needs.
The approval marks a continued push toward strengthening the GST regime across the country. As Manipur adopts these new amendments, the state’s tax ecosystem is likely to benefit from greater clarity, efficiency, and regulatory coherence, reinforcing the overall stability of India’s nationwide GST structure.
