CM Nitish Kumar Reviews Flood Relief and Rescue Operations, Issues Strict Directives to Officials



Patna, August 13, 2025 –
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today conducted a high-level review of ongoing flood relief and rescue operations through video conferencing from ‘Sankalp’ at 1, Anne Marg. During the meeting, he directed officials to extend all possible assistance to flood-affected people with sensitivity and urgency. The Chief Minister also reviewed the latest water level updates of rivers across the state and stressed the need to speed up relief efforts.

Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, Pratyaya Amrit, briefed the CM that heavy rainfall has severely impacted 10 districts along the Ganga River – Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, and Katihar. In these districts, 25 lakh people across 54 blocks and 348 panchayats are affected by the floods.

To support relief operations, 7 NDRF teams and 9 SDRF teams are deployed, using 60 motorboats and 1,233 boats to rescue and relocate people to safer places. So far, 52,573 polythene sheets and 1,800 dry ration packets have been distributed. Over 1.3 million meals have been served in community kitchens, while fodder and veterinary care have been arranged for livestock. District Magistrates have been instructed to prepare beneficiary lists for the distribution of gratuitous relief (GR) payments to affected families.

Amrit also informed that good rainfall has benefited farmers, with 93% of paddy transplantation completed in the state. Secretaries from the Water Resources, Agriculture, Road Construction, and Energy Departments provided updates on their respective flood-related measures and preparedness.

The Chief Minister instructed that the administration remain fully alert in riverbank areas where water levels are rising, and ensure immediate assistance to all affected people. He also directed the Road Construction and Rural Works Departments to promptly restore flood-damaged roads to ensure smooth connectivity for residents.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Nitish Kumar said that preparations for possible floods, droughts, and other disasters are reviewed before every monsoon, and all departments are instructed to act strictly as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

The meeting was attended by Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, Disaster Management Minister Vijay Kumar Mandal, Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, and several senior officials. District Magistrates of the affected districts also joined via video conferencing.
