Border Sweep Yields Major Drug Bust at Indo-Nepal Frontier; Six Suspects Taken Into Custody

A major joint operation by SSB and Bihar Police at the Indo-Nepal Raxaul border resulted in the seizure of 10 kg of charas worth about ₹3 crore and the arrest of six alleged traffickers. The crackdown followed coordinated raids across Haria and Sugauli, exposing a cross-border drug delivery network.

Security forces at the Indo-Nepal border near Raxaul intercepted a major narcotics consignment on Tuesday, seizing 10 kilograms of charas valued at roughly ₹3 crore and arresting six alleged traffickers in a coordinated operation. The joint action by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSSB) and Bihar Police followed intensified vigilance along the busy cross-border corridor, a frequent route for illicit smuggling networks.

According to Raxaul SDPO Manish Anand, the crackdown began during a joint inspection conducted by the Haria Police Station team and SSB personnel. Officers flagged down a vehicle bearing a Rajasthan registration number and, upon inspection, recovered seven kilograms of charas. Four men travelling in the car were detained: Tikam Chandra Goyal and Ashok Agrawal, both residents of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan; Meghraj Sah from Parsa district in Nepal’s Birgunj region; and Bengali Verma from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.

During interrogation, the detainees revealed that two individuals were waiting in Sugauli to receive the narcotics consignment via motorcycle. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police launched a follow-up raid in Sugauli. The operation led to the arrest of two more suspects—Sarvjeet Sah of Turkaulia and Amavat Kamaldeo Ram of Ratanpur under Hardiya Panchayat in Raxaul—who were found in possession of an additional three kilograms of charas.

Authorities described the seizure as a significant blow to cross-border trafficking in the region, where security agencies have been tightening surveillance to curb the movement of contraband. The successful joint operation, officials said, underscores the growing coordination between Indian and Nepal-border security units and highlights continued efforts to dismantle smuggling networks operating across the porous frontier.
