Modi Marks 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’ With Special Address in Lok Sabha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a special session in the Lok Sabha marking 150 years of “Vande Mataram.” He highlighted the national song’s historic role in the freedom movement and its continued significance as a symbol of unity, urging citizens to uphold its enduring values.
Speaking in the House, the Prime Minister underscored that “Vande Mataram” was far more than a rallying cry of the freedom movement; it was, he said, a unifying force that continues to inspire generations. Modi noted that the song had galvanized countless Indians during the independence struggle and remains woven into the nation’s collective consciousness even today.
He urged citizens to preserve the values embodied in the national song and to continue honouring its message of courage, pride, and national unity. Modi emphasized that remembering the legacy of “Vande Mataram” also meant recognising the sacrifices and aspirations that shaped India’s journey from colonisation to sovereignty.
Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister said the 150-year milestone offered an opportunity for the nation to reaffirm its connection to the ideals represented by the anthem-like composition—an enduring reminder of India’s cultural heritage and its unbroken sense of identity.
