Shivraj Singh Chouhan Calls Farmers the Nation’s “True Practical Scientists”

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised Indian farmers as the nation’s “true practical scientists,” highlighting their experiential knowledge, innovation in the fields, and essential role in ensuring food security and supporting India’s economic foundation during remarks in New Delhi.

In New Delhi, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan underscored the indispensable role of India’s farming community, describing farmers as the country’s “greatest practical scientists.” Speaking about the depth of traditional agricultural wisdom, Chouhan emphasized that no laboratory-driven researcher matches the experiential knowledge farmers gain through years of observation, experimentation, and adaptation on the field.

Chouhan noted that India’s agricultural backbone is strengthened not only by hard physical labor but also by the intuitive, experience-based decision-making that farmers apply to soil, climate, and crop management. He highlighted how farmers continuously innovate—adjusting to shifting weather patterns, assessing soil conditions, and responding to natural challenges with methods refined across generations.

Pointing to the broader national impact, Chouhan stressed that India’s food security depends directly on the farmer’s skill and resilience. Their sustained contribution, he said, forms the foundation of the country’s economic strength, ensuring stability in essential food supplies and supporting livelihoods across sectors connected to agriculture.

As he concluded, Chouhan reiterated that recognizing the farmer’s scientific instinct is crucial for shaping future agricultural policy and for honoring those who safeguard the nation’s sustenance. Their work, he said, reflects not only toil but an unparalleled understanding of nature—knowledge that remains central to India’s development journey.
