Strong Action Against Crime and Naxals
With a decline in Naxal violence, the STF has been redirected towards tackling organized crime, and the results have been significant.
-
In 2024, STF arrested 752 criminals, while this year the figure has already touched 857.
-
Arrests of Naxals rose from 44 in 2024 to 101 this year.
-
Seizures also saw a sharp rise: 12,176 live cartridges seized this year, compared to 3,681 last year.
-
Similarly, the recovery of firearms increased from 19 (2024) to 32 in 2025 so far.
Key Arrests of Dreaded Criminals
STF’s special units carried out high-risk operations to capture some of the most wanted fugitives:
-
August 18: ₹2 lakh bounty gangster Butan Chaudhary was nabbed from Maharashtra.
-
April 5: In a joint operation with Delhi Police, interstate gold looter Subodh Singh and ₹2 lakh rewarded criminal Vikas Kumar alias John Wright were caught from Paharganj, Delhi.
-
March 28: ₹1 lakh rewarded Maoist Rajesh Yadav of Aurangabad was arrested from Raigarh, Maharashtra.
-
February 8: A notorious gangster Manish, carrying a ₹50,000 reward, was caught from Delhi.
STF Martyrs During Operations
The STF has also suffered heavy sacrifices during these interstate crackdowns. Inspector Mukund Murari, JC Vikas Kumar, JC Jeevdhari Kumar, Inspector Santosh Kumar, and Mithilesh Paswan lost their lives in Surat (Gujarat) after a road accident while chasing criminals.
NIA Joins Crackdown on Arms Supply Chain
ADG Krishnan further revealed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also probing cases linked to illegal arms and ammunition supply networks. Recently, raids were carried out in Hajipur and six other locations. To cripple the financial backbone of criminals, proposals to confiscate illegal properties have been forwarded to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) and may soon be sent to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Clarification on “Operation Langda”
Addressing media queries, ADG Krishnan clarified that there is no such operation called "Operation Langda" being conducted by Bihar Police. “The STF conducts operations to arrest criminals. If criminals open fire, our forces retaliate, but no campaign by this name exists,” he asserted.
