Jharkhand: Part of railway tracks operated by NTPC blown up in Sahibganj district


Jharkhand news: Part of a railway line, operated by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for transporting coal, was blown up in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district, police said today (October 2). 

"We have started an investigation," Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sahibganj Amit Kumar Singh told media.

Criminal gangs are suspected of being involved in the incident, he said.

"The line is not part of the Indian Railway network. It is operated by the NTPC for transporting coal from Godda's Lalmatia to its power station in Farakka in West Bengal," he said.

Around 470 cm of the track was blown up in the explosion, police said. Some miscreants have blown up the railway track by planting explosives in Sahibganj. 

This incident took place on the MGR railway line going from Lalmatia to Farakka. After the accident, rail service on this route has been disrupted. There has been no loss of life or property in this bomb blast so far. 

The investigation is being conducted from all angles and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called on the spot for further probe into the matter.

According to the details received from the railways, a bomb blast incident took place last night near Gujri MGR railway line pole number 40/1.

The villagers came to know about the incident while passing by there at around 4:00 am today early morning. After this the villagers informed the NTPC workers and police officers about it.

The villagers told that the goods train going from Lalmatia to Farakka was going to pass through the said track at around 6 am. But as soon as the information of the incident was received, the NTPC workers stopped the oncoming goods train near pole number 42/2. 

NTPC night guard Jitendra Sah said that on Tuesday night at around 11:30 pm, during duty, the sound of a tyre bursting was reported. But this morning, as soon as the Munshi received the information about the bomb blast on the track, the senior officers were informed.
