Tejashwi Yadav Targets Samrat Choudhary Over Jamui Minor Harassment Case

Tejashwi Yadav targets Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary over the Jamui minor harassment case, using a fictional police dialogue involving a saffron gamchha, AI and alleged caste angles.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday targeted Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary over the alleged harassment of a minor girl and her male companion in Jamui, using a sarcastic imaginary conversation between the Chief Minister and a police officer to allege that the investigation could be influenced by caste and political considerations.

Yadav referred to the alleged confrontation between the Chief Minister and police and constructed a fictional exchange in which Choudhary asks what colour gamchha the alleged harasser was wearing. The remarks came after a video purportedly showing a minor girl and her male companion being harassed and assaulted by a group of youths in Jamui went viral on social media.

In a post on X, Yadav wrote that during the Jamui incident, while Samrat Choudhary was holding a caste-based conference, he allegedly called a police officer at night and asked what colour gamchha the person who harassed the girl was wearing. The police officer, in Yadav's imagined dialogue, replied that it was saffron, “just like yours.”

Yadav then extended the fictional exchange, suggesting that the Chief Minister would conclude that a person wearing a saffron gamchha could not be a “rapist” and would therefore be ideologically “pure” and a supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He then added another imagined question about whether the saffron gamchha contained even a small patch of green.

The RJD leader also mocked the alleged use of artificial intelligence in identifying the accused and suggested that police could be pressured to establish a particular caste angle in the investigation. He went on to imagine the police being instructed to find a Muslim or Yadav connection to the accused.

Continuing the fictional dialogue, Yadav wrote that the Chief Minister would tell the police to find a Muslim and Yadav angle “whatever it takes,” while the police officer would respond that the matter was complicated. In the imagined exchange, the Chief Minister then threatens suspension and tells the officer to do what he has ordered.

Yadav further wrote that an accused in a liquor or murder case could be implicated in the Jamui case, adding that “something” had to be done. He presented the conversation as an imagined exchange between Bihar's Chief Minister and a police officer.

The fictional dialogue continued with the police officer saying that the police were even more desperate than the Chief Minister, followed by an imagined warning from the Chief Minister not to act too smart and to hurry. Yadav then referred sarcastically to a song that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might sing from a teleprompter during the election campaign, linking the reference to caste politics.

In the final part of the post, Yadav's imagined dialogue included the Chief Minister wondering which officer had taught him the “green gamchha” and AI lines and asking that the person be identified. The remarks were presented by Yadav as satire aimed at questioning the alleged role of caste and political considerations in the investigation.

Yadav's remarks have circulated on social media and added to the political controversy surrounding the Jamui case. The incident occurred on September 19, when the minor girl had gone to take photographs with a male friend, according to ADG (Law and Order) KS Anupam. A case was registered under various sections, and three arrests had been made.

The controversy intensified after the video showing the alleged harassment became public, with opposition leaders targeting the Samrat Choudhary-led government over the handling of the case. Yadav's latest remarks have added a new political dimension by focusing on alleged caste considerations, the identification of the accused and the role of police in the investigation.

The Jamui case has therefore become the subject of both a police investigation and an increasingly heated political exchange in Bihar, with Yadav using an imagined conversation to question how the investigation could be influenced by political and caste considerations.
