Mission 2027: Central Railway’s Bhusaval Division Orchestrates Massive Infrastructure Overhaul for Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela
Central Railway’s Bhusaval Division launches a massive infrastructure upgrade for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik. With 3 crore pilgrims expected, the plan includes yard remodeling, new platforms, and advanced signaling at Nashik Road and Devlali to ensure safe, efficient transport for one of the world's largest religious gatherings.
At the heart of this massive logistical undertaking is a series of strategic station upgrades focused on the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar corridor. The Bhusaval Division is currently prioritizing civil, track, and signaling works to ensure that peak traffic periods are managed with fail-safe precision. Key to this is the implementation of Electronic Interlocking (EI) and Non-Interlocked (NI) commissioning, which will modernize the signaling reliability across "Kumbh-important" stations. By phasing these works judiciously, the division aims to maintain current operational stability while ensuring the entire network is fully resilient long before the first wave of pilgrims arrives in mid-2027.
The development plan extends across five critical hubs: Devlali, Nashik Road, Odha, Kasbe Sukene, and Kherwadi. At Nashik Road, the primary gateway for the event, authorities are focusing on expanding platform capacity, constructing new foot-over bridges, and establishing vast external "holding areas" to prevent overcrowding during peak dispersal. Similarly, Devlali and Kherwadi are undergoing significant yard remodeling to add new platforms and loop lines. These stations are being reconfigured not just as transit points, but as regulated environments where passenger movement is orchestrated through integrated holding areas and strengthened utility infrastructure to maintain dignity and safety for every traveler.

Beyond physical construction, the success of the 2027 Kumbh Mela hinges on a sophisticated administrative structure. Under the leadership of Shri Punit Agrawal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Bhusaval, a dedicated task force including specialized officers for the Kumbh project has been established. This team conducts weekly on-site inspections to troubleshoot bottlenecks and ensure quality standards are met. Furthermore, the railway administration is working in a tight feedback loop with State authorities to align railway works with broader civil administration goals. This collaborative synergy ensures that the massive influx of people does not paralyze local infrastructure, but rather moves through a well-oiled machine of coordinated transport and security.
As the countdown to July 2027 begins, the Bhusaval Division’s proactive stance reflects a broader commitment to excellence in public service. The ongoing works are more than just temporary fixes; they represent a long-term investment in the region’s rail resilience. By blending high-tech signaling upgrades with humane crowd-control strategies, Indian Railways is setting the stage for a Simhastha Kumbh Mela that is defined by safety, efficiency, and the seamless movement of millions, ensuring that the sanctity of the pilgrimage is matched by the reliability of the journey.
