Uttarakhand CM Launches Ambitious Tulip Campaign to Transform State into a Global Floral Tourism Hub

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has officially launched a high-profile tulip plantation campaign in Dehradun. Featuring 17 exotic varieties including Lake Purple and Bicolor, this initiative by the Forest Department aims to enhance environmental conservation while establishing the state as a world-class destination for floral tourism and eco-travel.

DEHRADUN: In a significant move to bolster the Himalayan state’s eco-tourism profile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially inaugurated the state’s massive tulip plantation drive by planting the season's first bulbs at his residence in Dehradun. Accompanied by his family, the Chief Minister’s ceremonial planting marked the beginning of a strategic environmental initiative aimed at diversifying the region’s flora and creating a vibrant new attraction for international and domestic travelers.

The campaign is not merely a seasonal planting exercise but a structured horticultural project involving 17 distinct varieties of tulips. Among the most anticipated blooms are the ‘Lake Purple’ and ‘Bicolor’ variants, selected for their striking visual appeal and ability to thrive in Uttarakhand’s unique climatic conditions. By introducing these exotic species, the state administration aims to create a floral spectacle that rivals famous gardens across the globe, effectively positioning Uttarakhand as a premier destination for nature enthusiasts.

Beyond the aesthetic allure, the initiative is a collaborative effort between the state administration and the Forest Department to bridge the gap between environmental conservation and economic growth. Officials emphasized that the cultivation of these diverse tulip species serves a dual purpose: enhancing the local ecosystem and stimulating the tourism economy during the spring season. The project reflects a broader vision to utilize the state's natural landscape as a sustainable asset, providing a boost to local livelihoods while maintaining ecological integrity.

The successful implementation of this campaign is expected to redefine the state’s tourism calendar. By integrating high-value horticulture with traditional forest management, Uttarakhand is setting a precedent for how Himalayan states can innovate within the green economy. As these 17 varieties take root, the initiative promises to transform the local landscape into a kaleidoscope of color, ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of India’s environmental and tourism evolution.
