According to an India Today report, Elvin Prakash Kunder, originally from Udupi, had been working at Sharjah Airport for the past 14 years. He was living in the UAE with his wife, Tina Kunder, and their son. Tina was working as a teacher at a school in the UAE, while their son was studying in Class 10.
Elvin's brother, Anil Prashant Kunder, was the first to suspect that something was wrong. He said he had called Elvin around July 20. Instead of answering the call, a text message was sent from Elvin's number saying that he was fine. However, the message raised suspicion within the family because Elvin would always communicate through voice messages.
When there was still no response after a week, Anil sent Elvin's friend Manohar, who was living in Sharjah, to check on him. Initially, the watchman at Elvin's flat and the company's HR told them that Prakash had gone to India. Anil then informed the company that Elvin had not reached India.
The company subsequently checked his passport records, which established that he had not left Sharjah. A missing-person complaint was then filed.
Since the incident, Elvin's wife Tina and their son have also been missing. This has raised questions about their possible role in the murder. However, the family said they were not aware of any dispute between the husband and wife.
Elvin's brother Anil has now met the Superintendent of Police in Udupi and appealed for intervention in the case. Meanwhile, the family is waiting for the legal procedures in the UAE to be completed so that Elvin's mortal remains can be brought back to India.
