In the 130th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "This is the first 'Mann Ki Baat' of the year 2026. Tomorrow, on 26 January, we will all celebrate Republic Day. It was on this day that our Constitution came into force. The day of 26 January gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to the makers of our Constitution. Today, 25 January, is also a very important day. Today is 'National Voters' Day'. The voter is the soul of democracy."
Indian products must be synonymous with top quality: PM Modi
During the 130th episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi said, "These days I am seeing an interesting trend on social media. People are reliving their memories of the year 2016. In the same spirit, today I too would like to share one of my memories with you. Ten years ago, in January 2016, we embarked upon an ambitious journey. We had realised then that even if it were a small one, it was very important for the future of the country for the young generation. Today, India has turned into the third-largest start-up ecosystem in the world. These Start-ups are out of the box; they are working in sectors that were unimaginable even 10 years ago."
PM Modi urged that with India emerging as one of the fastest-growing economies and a thriving startup ecosystem, the time has come to prioritise quality and make excellence the national benchmark. "AI, Space, Nuclear Energy, Semiconductors, Mobility, Green Hydrogen, Biotechnology, you name it, and you'll find one Indian Start-up or the other working in that sector. I salute all my young friends who are associated with one Start-up or the other, or want to start one of their own. Let us resolve to improve the quality of whatever we manufacture. Be it our textiles, technology, electronics, or packaging, the connotation of an Indian product should become 'top quality'. Let us make excellence our benchmark," he added.
Finding solutions to problems is in our nature: PM Modi
Prime Minister Modi said innovation and problem-solving are intrinsic to the spirit of Indians, whether through start-ups or collective community efforts. Highlighting people-led initiatives, he cited the revival of the Tamsa River in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, where locals cleaned the polluted river, removed silt and waste, and planted fruit-bearing trees along its banks, restoring its cultural and ecological significance.
He also pointed to a similar example from drought-hit Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh, where residents, with administrative support, launched the Ananta Neeru Sanrakshanam Project. Under the initiative, over 10 reservoirs were revived and more than 7,000 trees planted, improving water availability, green cover, and the overall ecosystem in the region.
Bhajan clubbing is becoming popular among Gen Z
Prime Minister said bhajans and kirtans have been the soul of India’s culture for centuries, evolving with every era while keeping the spirit of devotion alive. He noted that today’s youth are carrying this legacy forward in a unique and contemporary way.
Addressing the growing trend of "bhajan clubbing", PM Modi said large numbers of young people are gathering in cities across the country at events that resemble modern concerts, complete with lighting, music and elaborate stages. However, instead of film songs, these gatherings echo with bhajans sung with deep focus, dedication and rhythm. He said it was heartening that the dignity and purity of bhajans are preserved in these events. While the presentation and setting may be modern, the essence of devotion remains intact, with no compromise on words, emotions or spiritual values.
India's family system an integral part of our tradition
PM Modi said that wherever one goes in India, one is bound to witness extraordinary examples of community spirit that often escape media attention but reflect the true strength of society. He said such initiatives highlight India’s value system, where solidarity and togetherness are central.
Citing the example of Chandanki village in Beharaji, Gujarat, the Prime Minister said the village has been running a community kitchen for the past 15 years, where food for the entire village is cooked collectively. He noted that many villagers, especially the elderly, do not cook at home and instead eat together, strengthening bonds of unity.
PM Modi added that the village also runs a tiffin service for those who are unwell, ensuring food is delivered to their homes. He said these shared meals not only bring joy but also nurture a strong sense of family and belonging.
Emphasising that India's family system is an integral part of its tradition and admired globally, the Prime Minister recalled that UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan recently shared that the UAE will observe 2026 as the ‘Year of the Family’ to promote harmony and community spirit, calling it a commendable initiative.
