Congress Accuses Madhya Pradesh Govt of Ignoring Farmers as Chief Minister’s Foreign Trips Draw ₹34-Crore Spend

Congress leader Jitu Patwari criticises the Madhya Pradesh government, alleging farmers are not receiving fair crop prices while the Chief Minister spent ₹34 crore on three foreign trips. The statement intensifies political debate over public spending, agricultural distress, and governance priorities.

In Bhopal, a fresh political confrontation unfolded on Tuesday as Congress leader Jitu Patwari sharply criticised the Madhya Pradesh government, alleging that farmers across the state are struggling to secure even the basic cost of their produce while the Chief Minister’s recent international travel has incurred expenses running into crores. Patwari claimed that the administration has failed to ensure fair prices for crops at a time when agricultural distress remains a pressing concern for rural families.

According to Patwari, the Chief Minister undertook three foreign visits that together cost the public exchequer ₹34 crore—an amount he argued could have been redirected toward strengthening procurement mechanisms or easing farmers’ financial strain. The Congress leader accused the government of misplaced priorities, contending that crucial agricultural issues are being sidelined even as the state spends heavily on high-profile overseas engagements.

Patwari reiterated that the ongoing price gap for several key crops has left farmers unable to recover their production costs, thereby deepening rural dissatisfaction. He alleged that despite repeated appeals, the government has not taken substantive steps to address market fluctuations or ensure effective intervention through support pricing.

The state government has yet to issue a detailed response to the allegations, but the claims have sparked renewed scrutiny over public spending and policy focus. As the debate intensifies, the contrasting narratives highlight a broader political contest over governance, accountability, and the welfare of the farming community—issues that continue to shape the state’s socio-economic landscape.
