Assam Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Encroachments on Forest Land, Says CM Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announces intensified action against illegal encroachments on forest land, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustained eviction drives and strict enforcement until all protected areas are cleared. The state prioritizes safeguarding its forest resources and ecological balance.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reaffirmed his government’s uncompromising stance on clearing all illegal settlements from forest land across the state, stressing that the ongoing eviction drives will continue until every encroached area is fully restored to its rightful status. Speaking on the state’s broader environmental priorities, Sarma said safeguarding forest resources remains a central commitment of his administration.

According to the Chief Minister, the state has been undertaking a series of sustained actions aimed at removing those who have unlawfully occupied protected forest areas. He underlined that these operations are not isolated or symbolic measures but part of a long-term enforcement campaign designed to reclaim ecologically sensitive zones. Sarma added that the government will not hesitate to deploy stringent measures wherever necessary to ensure compliance with forest protection laws.

The Chief Minister maintained that preserving Assam’s natural wealth is critical not only for environmental balance but also for the long-term well-being of local communities who depend on forest ecosystems. By removing unauthorized settlers and strengthening monitoring mechanisms, the government aims to prevent further degradation, reduce conflict over land, and reinforce the legal framework governing forest conservation.

As eviction efforts proceed, Sarma emphasized that the state remains steadfast in its mission: to eliminate unlawful occupation from all designated forest regions and maintain the integrity of Assam’s protected land. The widening crackdown, he said, sends a clear message that the government considers forest preservation an urgent administrative and ecological priority.
