Massive Vandalism Outbreak on Kamla Ganga Intercity Express Sparks Public Outrage

A viral video of the Kamla Ganga Intercity Express reveals shocking vandalism, with every seat in a coach slashed during its Patna-Darbhanga run. As the RPF launches a probe into the destruction of railway property, the incident has sparked nationwide outrage and calls for stricter security measures and CCTV upgrades across Indian Railways coaches.

PATNA — Indian Railways is facing renewed scrutiny over passenger conduct and security protocols after a viral video surfaced on February 3, documenting a shocking act of deliberate destruction aboard the Kamla Ganga Intercity Express.

The footage, reportedly captured on January 30, reveals a trail of wreckage within a single coach of the daily service, which connects Bihar’s state capital, Patna, with Darbhanga. In an unprecedented display of malice, nearly every seat in the carriage was systematically slashed, leaving the upholstery in tatters and the interior in ruins.

A Pattern of Destruction

The incident has triggered a firestorm on social media, where the video has garnered thousands of views. Citizens and regular commuters have expressed sharp indignation over the brazen disregard for taxpayer-funded infrastructure. The outcry has placed immediate pressure on the East Central Railway (ECR) to move beyond standard condemnations and implement more rigorous deterrents.

Key demands from the public include:

  • Rapid Identification: The immediate arrest of the perpetrators through forensic and digital evidence.

  • Infrastructure Upgrades: A widespread call for the installation of high-definition CCTV cameras within all passenger coaches.

  • Stricter Penalties: Implementation of harsher legal consequences to deter future acts of railway vandalism.

Official Response and Investigation

While official statements from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are still developing, preliminary reports indicate that the damaged coach has been decommissioned and sent to the yard for extensive repairs.

The RPF has reportedly launched a formal probe into the matter. However, as of Tuesday, the individuals responsible for the carnage remain unidentified. Investigators are currently reviewing station-side surveillance and passenger manifests in an attempt to pinpoint when the vandalism occurred during the Patna-Darbhanga transit.

The Broader Challenge

This incident highlights a persistent "growing pain" for Indian Railways. As the network undergoes a massive modernization phase—introducing premium services and upgraded rolling stock—it continues to battle a segment of the population that targets public property. The Kamla Ganga incident serves as a stark reminder that physical upgrades to the rail network must be matched by robust security enforcement and a shift in civic responsibility to protect the country's most vital transport artery.
