Dialogue program with sugar mill units organized by Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board concluded


Lucknow: Under the chairmanship of Dr. R.P. Singh, Chairman, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, the Board today organized an important dialogue program with the representatives of 133 sugar mill units of the state in its office building. 

On this occasion, Dr. R.P. Singh said that the sugar industry has an important role in the economy and social development of Uttar Pradesh. The 133 sugar mills of the state make the state the leading sugar producer of the country.  These units provide employment to lakhs of farmers and workers, empower the rural economy and contribute significantly to the state's GDP.

He called upon the sugar mills to use the latest technologies such as advanced effluent treatment plants, emission control systems and fuel consumption technologies. He also stressed on effectively implementing the new Charter-2.0, citing the success of Charter-1.0 of 2018.

He said that it is necessary to give priority to sustainable development along with development. We have to maintain environmental balance in production and waste management.

Discussing the investment reforms made by UPPCB from time to time, he assured that the Board would provide full support to the industries through environmental compliance and consent processes.

Dr. Yashpal Singh, Senior Technical Advisor, UPSMA, gave detailed information on the problems of sugar mills, technical efforts and implementation of Charter-2.0 issued by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

 Regional Director Lucknow, Shri Kamal Kumar, highlighted the need for Charter-2.0 and its objectives and clarified its key points. He advised the industries to regularly check the CPCB website and ensure compliance with environmental rules. Also, he urged the sugar mills to send their suggestions and complaints to CPCB in writing. 

Chief Environmental Officer Shri Praveen Kumar, Technical Advisory Officer Shri Pradeep Sharma and other senior officers were present in the program. 

Chief Law Officer of UPPCB, Shri Anuj Choubey thanked all the representatives and gave information about the statutory obligations of the industries and the Board. 

Finally, Chief Environmental Officer (Administration) Shri Ramgopal expressed his commitment to organize such dialogue programs in future as well and concluded the program.
