Following the incident, the police filed an FIR against Singh under various serious charges, including the Arms Act and attempt to murder. Singh had surrendered on January 24, soon after the case was registered.

After being convicted, he was disqualified from the state assembly in 2020. However, in August 2024, the Patna High Court acquitted him of the charges and ordered his immediate release from prison.
