Australia extend their lead on Day 3
Kagiso Rabada picked up the wicket of Nathan Lyon to start the day, but the South Africa bowlers weren’t clinical enough to pick up the final wicket of Australia. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood played some good cricket as Australia extended their lead over 250 runs on Day 3. This might hurt South Africa in the fourth innings, who are chasing their maiden ICC title in 26 years.
The Proteas bowlers need to clear the tail soon to give them some chance to script a comeback. The Temba Bavuma-led side produced a poor batting show in the first innings, being bundled for 138 runs. The fourth innings won’t be any easier either, with Pat Cummins and Starc being in terrific form.
The Australia captain clinched a six-wicket haul in the first innings and will bring that confidence in the fourth. On the other hand, both Hazlewood and Starc have a good history of doing well at the Lord’s.
