TVS Motor Company has taken a decisive step toward democratizing electric mobility in India with the official launch of the Orbiter V1. Positioned as a high-utility urban commuter, the V1 arrives with a headline-grabbing entry price of ₹49,999 (ex-showroom, Delhi), made possible through the company’s newly introduced Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. By decoupling the cost of the battery from the vehicle’s upfront price, TVS is directly challenging the price barriers that have historically sidelined budget-conscious internal combustion engine (ICE) users from transitioning to electric power.

The Orbiter V1 joins its predecessor, the V2, to round out a versatile lineup tailored for different commuting intensities. While the V2 caters to long-range users with its 3.1kWh battery, the new V1 utilizes a compact 1.8kWh pack designed specifically for the daily city grind. Despite its smaller footprint, the V1 maintains competitive performance, offering a claimed Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of 86km on a single charge. Efficiency extends to its charging capabilities as well, with the system engineered to replenish the battery from zero to 80 percent in approximately two hours and 20 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime for active commuters.

Beyond the innovative pricing, the Orbiter V1 is built on a foundation of practicality and advanced technology. The scooter features a class-leading 34-liter under-seat storage area—spacious enough to accommodate two helmets—alongside a generous 290mm footboard and a long, flat 845mm seat designed for dual-rider comfort. Technology is equally central to the V1 experience; it comes equipped with a colored LCD instrument cluster that integrates seamlessly with a smartphone app. This connectivity suite offers riders turn-by-turn navigation, real-time battery monitoring, and critical safety features such as anti-theft, crash, and fall alerts. Convenience is further bolstered by the inclusion of cruise control, hill-hold assist, and over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring the vehicle evolves with the latest software improvements.

The launch also marks the national debut of TVS’s comprehensive BaaS framework across its entire electric portfolio. For those opting out of the subscription model, the Orbiter V1 is priced at ₹84,500 inclusive of the PM e-Drive incentive. However, the BaaS route offers an enticing alternative, with subscription plans starting at a modest ₹862 per month. This monthly fee not only covers battery usage but also bundles an extended warranty of five years or 70,000km, providing a layer of financial security that addresses long-term battery health concerns. As TVS scales this model, the move is expected to significantly alter the competitive landscape of the Indian two-wheeler market, potentially forcing a broader industry shift toward subscription-based ownership.
