Science will no longer remain confined to textbooks—soon, visitors will be able to explore and experience it in more engaging and practical ways. The Indira Gandhi Planetarium (Taramandal), Patna, is all set to introduce a Souvenir Shop and a Virtual Reality (VR) Theatre, creating a vibrant atmosphere akin to a science fair. These new facilities aim to spark curiosity and offer a unique learning experience to science enthusiasts and students alike.

Souvenir Shop Underway

The tender for the Souvenir Shop has already been finalized, and construction work is currently underway. Once completed, the shop will showcase and sell a wide range of items such as scientific instruments, books on various subjects, space suits, drones, scientific models, and educational toys for children. The objective is to cultivate scientific interest among children and youth, turning the space into an exciting hub where everything reflects the world of science.

VR Theatre for a Thrilling Experience

In addition, a 25-seat VR Theatre is also being set up within the premises and is expected to be inaugurated by the end of this month. Visitors will be able to enjoy 3D and 4D experiences with the help of special simulator chairs and VR headsets. From roller coaster rides to underwater adventures and vibration effects, the theatre promises to give audiences the thrill of real-life simulation.

Daily Footfall of 2,000 Visitors

Currently, the planetarium hosts eight shows daily, attracting nearly 2,000 visitors every day. With these new additions, the experience is set to become even more engaging, making the planetarium a hotspot for both science learning and entertainment.

‘Bihar Se’ Restaurant Adds Cultural Flavor

Alongside the new science attractions, the planetarium complex recently saw the opening of a restaurant named “Bihar Se”, designed to showcase the state’s cultural essence. The restaurant serves meals on leaf plates and water in earthen cups (kulhads), adding a traditional touch. Its walls, painted in earthy tones and adorned with Madhubani paintings, further enhance the local vibe.

The menu features delicacies from across Bihar, including malpua, piyaji, bachka, murga jhor, fried fish, litti-chokha, khurma, and more. Uniquely, the menu is also written in a traditional desi style, making it easy for everyone to understand.

With the addition of the souvenir shop, VR theatre, and the cultural restaurant, the Patna planetarium is evolving into a unique destination that blends science, technology, culture, and tradition. These initiatives are expected to inspire students, entertain families, and boost Patna’s appeal as a center of knowledge and tourism.
