In a strong display of growing defence cooperation, the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have successfully concluded EKUVERIN, a two-week-long joint military exercise focused on enhancing operational readiness and interoperability. The bilateral drill underscored the strategic partnership between the two nations and their shared commitment to stability in the Indian Ocean region.

Held over an intensive training schedule, the exercise concentrated on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, allowing troops from both sides to train together under realistic operational scenarios. Personnel exchanged tactical expertise, refined joint operational procedures, and strengthened coordination aimed at addressing evolving security challenges.

The exercise formally concluded with a Joint Validation Exercise in Thiruvananthapuram, where troops demonstrated the skills and tactics honed during the training period. The final phase was observed by Major General R.D. Sharma from the Indian Army and Brigadier General Abdulla Ibrahim of the MNDF, reflecting the high-level military oversight and importance attached to the engagement.

EKUVERIN served not only as a platform for tactical training but also as a confidence-building measure between the armed forces of India and the Maldives. By training side by side, both forces reaffirmed their ability to operate cohesively during joint missions and humanitarian or security contingencies.
